Research Interests

Isabelle’s PhD research project (jointly supervised by Professor Mike Shaver at the Sustainable Materials Innovation Hub) is looking at the impact of sterilisation methods on single-use materials within the medical and dental sectors. This project is contributing to the wider EPSRC Bupa Prosperity Partnership, looking to tackle sustainability issues within the medical and dental sectors (https://gibsongroupresearch.com/2025/01/23/prosperity-partnership-with-bupa-success/).
Her research interests lie within the field of Materials Science, with specific focuses on biomedical and sustainable materials. Prior to joining the group in 2025, Isabelle’s work in industry exposed her to a variety of materials, manufacturing processes, and characterisation techniques. Examples included the heat treatment and brazing of metallic components in aerospace engines, extrusion of bioplastics for packaging applications, and microstructural and chemical characterisation of battery materials.
