Research Interests
Karina’s research explores cryopreservation strategies for improved CAR-T cell transport and therapy, co-funded by the EPSRC and FUJIFILM Biotechnologies. Her research interests include translational approaches to improving CAR-T cell manufacturing, preservation and bioprocessing.
Prior to her PhD, Karina worked as a Quality Control Scientist within the cell and gene therapy sector, where she performed in-process and release testing of autologous CAR-T cell therapies. Her experience included flow cytometry, potency testing, ddPCR, cell culture and viability assays within a regulated GMP environment. Her current research builds directly on this industry experience, drawing on first-hand understanding of existing CAR-T manufacturing and cryopreservation practices to inform research into their further development and improvement.
During her integrated Master’s degree in Biomedical Science, Karina investigated the effects of SGLT2 inhibitors and GLP-1 receptor agonists on inflammation using an in vitro model of diabetic kidney disease, developing experience in mammalian cell culture and molecular and cell-based assays.
