Research Interests

Iakovia’s research is on developing and targeting glycans for diagnostics and biosensors based upon nanoparticle platforms. Previously, she completed her PhD with Prof. Robert Field at University of Manchester and Iceni Glycoscience as a Marie Skłodowska-Curie network fellow in Glytunes.  Her research focused on developing glycomimetics using chemoenzymatic approaches to tune the Siglec-sialoglycan axis (RSC Chem. Biol. 2024). Prio to her PhD, Iakovia worked as a research assistant on the investigation of the effects of microplastics in water and wastewater (Water Res. 2022). She completed her MSc degree in Research in Chemistry at Leiden University (Angew. Chem. 2022) and her BSc in Biological Chemistry at the University of Cyprus (Mol. Pharm.  2019).
